Some "Bonus Asides" I left out ...

Of the more than 300 Democrats who have served in Congress since March 2020, I can say with confidence that zero have “represented” my views on this government response. Like most of my readers, I believe that EVERY Covid policy was not only wrong, but wrong with deadly consequences.

From the lockdowns to the masks to the vaccines, our official public health response has dramatically worsened public health. And this doesn’t include the economic devastation or the eradication of personal liberties supposedly protected by our Constitution. Anyway, 0 out of 300 is very bad.

But the mainstream press is even worse. Per my research, there are approximately 40,000 mainstream journalists who work full time in this profession in America (newspapers account for 31,000 of these journalists).. Of these 40,000 journalists and editors, I am aware of … zero … who have written one significant story that questions the non-sensical and tragic policies of our government.

So 0 out of 40,000 is even more awful. Indeed, I defy statisticians to find another group where all 40,000 members think exactly the same.

In the future, when you read some article that mentions “groupthink” or “pack journalism,” please remember the ratios I provided above. The groupthink is not 95.3 percent, it’s 100 percent. The percent of journalists or Democratic politicians who think like me is not 4.7 percent, it’s 0 percent.

... But instead of whining about my political glass being 98 percent empty, I’m going to keep hope alive and give thanks my red Dixie cup is actually 2 percent full. The reason it’s two percent full is that three candidates I really like actually won Tuesday night. These candidates are Sen. Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Gov. Ron DeSantis of Florida and Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky.

Only controversial topics that are "safe" are allowed in mainstream. Most people don't go off the beaten trail in search of those who actually tell you what's going on out there. I learned it by reading books. I check out the references or lack thereof. It's hard to fake something with 1000 references.

I'm researching my next big piece - how the establishment laid the groundwork for the Covid response with all their investments in "media" and grants to fight disinformation. The amount of $ spread around is staggering. They've been preparing for this for years. It largely worked.

Three more asides that DID end up on the cutting room floor ...

God bless the few people who still occasionally read a long article. This article not included, some complex topics can’t be developed or explained in 750 words or presented in a 75-second news segment on your local news.

... As all writers know, it’s much more difficult to “write short” than long. So, also, God Bless those writers who can condense important thoughts or information into quick reads.

Also, God Bless good editors who have this talent and help these writers achieve this goal. But where are all these editors? They’ve been let go … because of real inflation and real (self-inflicted) carnage in newsrooms … So, as another aside, everything ultimately ties all together.

So I've been writing on a voluntary basis for a small, conservative newspaper called Faith and Freedom out of Yadkinville, NC (west of Winston-Salem) since 2014. I'm not a journalist. Have no degree in journalism. And realized I do it just because I'm a REALLY p*ssed-off American and am sick & tired of being sick & tired. Besides, it's free therapy. The reason I like it is because I've been able to chronicle barry soetoro's administration, as well as the deep state's bull crap they've hoisted on Americans as well as people across the globe. I'm not gonna lie, it's not fun being this awake, but I also wonder what took me so long to get here? All the men in my family are/were printers. They printed the TV Dial and Guide and tons of other things for years! It made a very good living for them all. My brothers are hanging on by their fingers tips...not sure how much longer "the newspaper" will last :(

God bless and keep doing you!

You remind me of me! I'm happy you found one news organization that will let you run your pieces. I started my Substack because none of my freelance submissions were getting accepted by any semi-mainstream site. I've long known it would be futile for me to apply for a job at a real newspaper. One minute of background research into my previous published articles would disqualify me.

P.S. please come back and post often. Post some excerpts of your writing here in the Reader Comment section. Also, I'd be happy to run "guest articles" in the future.

That is SO very gracious of you!

Everyone reaches their own precipice at a different time and for different reasons. I reached mine on August 7, 2012 when I literally got off the couch, went to the Dollar Store and got supplies to make an "impeach obama" sign to hang on the on the overpass near my house hahahahaha

Do you remember the people that starting popping up on the overpasses to protest against barry? Well one thing led to another and my editor reached out to one of the guys I used to protest with because she was starting a paper and needed writers. He passed my name along because of my patriotism and sassiness. Needless to see we've been lady friends ever since and poof...Justana Merican was born ;)

p.s. I'm really just a gramma that's been in IT over 30 years. Perhaps I should be baking cookies or knitting instead of wanting to be on the front lines against tyranny! :)

Cheers to McNuggets (soon to be named McCrickets I guess..) and to your perceptive asides, thanks, but the ‘who gets to decide’ what is ‘harmful hate speech’ is an Orwellian elephant aside in the global woke room. Good luck on that one!

Bravo. Funny. I too take out the bulk of my asides, and put them to a side for use at a possibly more appropriate time. I'd say you just created at least 3 months worth of articles with this one and imagine how many asides will spill from them. What's really interesting is that you make mentions in your article that will be in mine next Friday and neither of us discussed what we're writing. Imagine if we knew each other longer. hahaha.

A an aside, USA Today probably would have already folded had it not been for so many hotels/motels offering them free to their guests.

Expand full comment
Marvin's avatar

Those toilet paper copies weren't free, the hotel guests paid for them as part of their room rate - which was the subject of at least one class action lawsuit a few years ago.

Point being the hotel business probably kept USA Today in business.

As an owner of a hot dog cart operation, I have a professional observation on whether communists eat hot dogs. I can tell you plainly that hot dogs are "peasant food". That is to say, it is the affordable option to nearly any other mobile vending item you can buy off a food truck or cart. Heck, the grilled cheese truck charges $9 while I charge $5. But while not all peasants are communists, all communists are peasants,...so yes, they eat hot dogs,...unless they're one of those vegan faggots.

sk's avatar

Those pretending to be communists, because it's their hustle, are not eating hot dogs. I'm a hot dog snob and grew up on Sabrett. My grandfather used to speak of Nathan on the Coney Island boardwalk selling them at two for a nickel. I think he exaggerated a bit.
