Carrie, my beautiful bride, just emailed me that she appreciated the plug I added at the end of this story soliciting possible PayPal donations, which go directly to her. (I've never used PayPal and don't know how it works).
I replied that, "Who knows? It's not impossible that one day some billionaire would hit you/us up with a $500,000 "excellence in journalism" grant.
My last bullet point notes that 573 new billionaires have been minted in the last couple of years. However, the world actually has 2,668 billionaires.
My article also notes that Bill Gates has given $21 million just to NPR. He's probably given (has given) billions of dollars to all the other captured or "trusted" news organizations.
I mean, a contribution of half a million bucks for one Substack author would be like nickels found in the couch seat cushions for some of these people.
For me, it's quite the tell that 100 percent of the journalism grants bestowed by our billionaire class go to journalism organizations that censor the truth.
... Maybe a dog lover who read my recent piece on Rufus, the orphaned puppy our children saved, might provide a rationale to get us one of these modest grants?
Thanks. I really like them too. They make their best points when you group a couple together to provide context. I'll try to do more in the future. I could have kept going on and on with this effort.
Keep running that one picture that all the 'elites' (I really dislike that label) really dislike. I'm still catching up, but just saw the short docu by filmmaker Justin Smith about excess deaths in the UK - https://sovrintv.substack.com/p/deadly-quiet
Slowly, the populace at large will see these. Hopefully, not too late.
Bill - I'm sad to report but I think Substack is compromised. As evidence of that I've tried to "unsubscribe" to several places - not yours - but my efforts are amounting to naught. Just like so many abnormal numbers being disregarded that are off the charts statistically speaking - more than 3 orders of anomaly. So I apologize in advance, but maybe I can support your good journalistic efforts in other ways - cause sadly seems to me Substack is compromised - just like so much else is these days - as you say - they all are subsumed.
I'm worried about some things on Substack too. For example, my "Open Rate" - the percentage of my subscribers who actually open and read one of my articles - has fallen by about 11 to 13 points in recent months - from 43 or 44 percent to often, now, 31 percent.
This might be a function of over-subscribed readers, but I don't think that explains all of this. It's worth watching. Thanks for your great support this past year or so!
What gives me pause is when I try to use "code" previously in place and still there but it doesn't work even if it tells me - "you unsubscribed" - suggest to me the programmers and individual created this Substack environment are "over their heads" and they don't have quality control in programming and this sort of shit leads to all sorts of bugaboos and then next thing you know - somebody comes in and purchases the whole forum - if that happens it will be a shame.
Do you know how to archive all of your articles for the sake of posterity - I suspect I need to do this - I'm not trying to make a living here at this place - I'm sharing ideas but censorship is a no-go for me - and I read the terms and conditions and those are binding.
But for the sake of prudence, I think I ought archive all my content - so if you know an easy way to do this - please let me know.
I intend on supporting your efforts at Journalism as long as you continue them - whether they be at Substack or elsewhere.
I'm also getting several Stripe/Substack disputes when someone allegedly cancels a paid subscription but these people say they were still charged for a sub for X more weeks or months. I have to pay a "dispute fee' of $15 even though i don't have anything to do with the logistics of someone cancelling a sub. Substack and Stripe handle all that. I don't "approve" or process cancelled subs. I don't have anything to do with it.
Stay tuned. I have a very big idea that i think could help freelance independent writers make more $ and help subscribers save $.
I look forward to your idea and I'm still hanging here and know this - I am a founding member of your place here - I hope realize that means commitment - I put my money where my mouth is as they say in that old toothpaste commercial and seriously - I'm not kidding around - me and many more I suspect desire good journalism tells the story fair - and then let the chips fall where they will - Substack or NOT.
I only have three Founding Subscribers and you are one of them. That's a big commitment and I'm flattered by the show of support. The good news is I still think my biggest and best stories are still to come.
I look forward to reading what you got to share - be it on Substack or elsewhere - I'm in the midst of a personnel commitment to keep my subscriptions to 24 or less and many have bamboozled me but now I think I might know better - I honestly think the value of what you offer is priceless - so know that some of us along with you can read the writing on the wall - I hope you have at least acquired a backup power generator cause if the shjt hits the fan that is going to be of value Bill even if the deniers will deny the truth as they get pushed to the bed of death deserved.
Myself - I call for Justified Retribution upon them - been calling for said a long time and nobody cares, but I call for it nonetheless.
"they" whoever the eff they are make it very difficult to cancel, but I found a way to do it even if it is offensively smelly being some entity keeps funds - but I cancelled nonetheless and let the bastards keep their short term gains - better ideas beckon and they prove themselves worthless with such short term thinking.
As for the $2000 I invested as an "angel investor" small time - they cannot weasel their way out of that - there will be a reckoning.
Have you not said many times - all the organization of journalism are "captured". I believe you have and so given that what makes you think SubStack is different.
Quit kidding yourself Bill - of course some of us are attentive, but most are just living in an entitled dreamland fixing to turn into a nightmare in a heartbeat. I'd just assume not participate in that, but I know you are there in Alabama and if I'm in a touch situation in the local area I may call upon you and if I do remember - I was a founding member.
I hope Substack gets a clue - but my doubts on that are increasing based on evidence and it is a shame and if somebody named Elon wants to acquire Substack, then he must know it will be worthless if there is censorship.
I appreciate that where you can you cite your sources! The most difficult problem we all have and will continue to have is remembering all of the stupid, unnecessary stuff that we were put through. Never forget!! So make sure you have all these interesting and condemning facts in a nice, easily accessible database to update stats and add more stupid stuff to it!
Also the “Portal” and NIL will destroy Division 1 sports. But as long as Universities make money I guess I shouldn’t care.
Dick Morris reported the annual salary, the net worth before entering Congress and the current or exiting net worth of many in Congress at the end of one of his books. Those numbers tell a good story. The millions and millions of dollars did not come from thin air.
Thanks, Jack; I agree. When I did "By the Numbers" sidebar pieces when I had a full-time journalism job, I'd cull interesting facts from the longer stories, but I'd also throw in some data I found in my research or interviews that I didn't work into the bigger main story.
Credible numbers/statistics do tell very important stories by themselves. And many of the important statistics are ignored.
Bravo!! What a treasure trove of data!!! I have one question… how and why was this ever allowed?? It makes no sense… who issues the money ? And Hospitals went along with this? Yikes!
“$39,000 - Reported government compensation given to hospitals when a Covid patient was placed on a ventilator.”
$9,000 funeral benefit, $39,000 for putting patients on vents, plus extra money for giving patients Remdesivir and extra money for all the "Covid patients' a hospital treated. Then the doctors and pharmacists were given bonuses for getting more people vaccinated.
The hospitals were also "compensated" for turning away all the sick people they wouldn't or couldn't treat with the new CDC/WHO-designed Covid protocols. And the media was paid off to advertise the fear-mongering messages.
The "bribe" money spread throughout the entire economy is breath-taking.
And that's just a few of the "carrots." The "sticks" our "leaders" used to force compliance were even more egregious and terrifying.
And the patients on the vents couldn't even talk to defend themselves. Their loved ones were not allowed to come into the ICU and check on them either.
When I click the button to "unsubscribe" and get a message back that I am "unsubscribed" then is it not fair to assume that my intent has been realized?
When that is not the case after many times trying - and yes I admit I never loaded the "app" cause I don't care for apps - that suggest to me the entity is compromised - either that or it hired a bunch of programmers confused in flux - and that leads to big time troubles - Bill I'll support your efforts but I suspect it may be elsewhere - cause SubStack is losing its shine in my mind - I'll find somewhere else - we all will cause there won't be a choice if one wants to participate in a place of uncensored sharing and proper programming that knows the truism - "too much flux spells death of an idea".

I love this format. You should consider a weekly by the numbers. I miss seeing those in the paper too!!! Thanks Bill!
Thanks. I really like them too. They make their best points when you group a couple together to provide context. I'll try to do more in the future. I could have kept going on and on with this effort.

How many times have we heard "safe and effective?" Several thousand times for each citizen. This is the picture of "safe."
I also detest the term "elites", there is NOTHING elite about them. Quite the contrary.
They are legends in their own minds.

A tour de force of devastating data Bill! All of it very easily understood.
Well done.
Thanks a lot, Howard. I appreciate you reading it.
All of it is sad and stupid. Just a comment on print newspapers that is very sad too.
I appreciate that where you can you cite your sources! The most difficult problem we all have and will continue to have is remembering all of the stupid, unnecessary stuff that we were put through. That's a great "By the Numbers" anecdote.
Big Macs have never looked like that photo at any time since April 22, 1967.
Except in a food photographer's studio, that is.
+++ Keep this up! Many of the magazines I loved did this. The numbers often tell the stories quicker and better than words.

The vents killed more people than helped….. mostly by over oxidation….
And the patients on the vents couldn't even talk to defend themselves. Their loved ones were not allowed to come into the ICU and check on them either.
I love to paint by the numbers Bill, and the picture is becoming clearer and clearer my friend.
UPDATE: For those who recall my last story ... Steve Kirsch is hosting a podcast tonight on "Saving our Pets."
