I should have made one other important point in this piece: "The narrative" CAN be changed. It does't happen often, but when it does it was real journalism that spurred the change - often in a matter of days or weeks.

For example, freelance journalist Nicholas Wade (?) by himself debunked the theory that the virus came from "natural origins." For more than a year, this was THE narrative (pushed by Fauci et al of course). Once this journalist wrote his piece, laying out all the nonsensical elements of this argument and all the better arguments that is was almost-certainly manipulated in some lab .... this narrative (somehow) crumbled. It was at least fair game to consider this.

Another example is a WSJ reporter exposing Theranos and its founder.

For almost a decade, everyone thought this blood-testing device was going to change the world and this was a billion-dollar company. Once the reporter - and this news organization - did some actual investigative journalism ... that company was toast.

That's the goal or the template. Lies don't like sunlight or scrutiny.

BTW, the organization I envision would have a primo Reader Comments Section just like Substack. So some of the best news tips and story ideas or data would end up coming from readers.

There are many, many sources right now that are providing abundant and truthful information on exactly what’s happening. Substack is one of the best, but there are plenty more.

But the bitter Truth is very few Americans want to know it. They’re scared out of their wits at losing jobs and friends. It’s called Mass Formation, the fulminating totalitarian state based on lies and fear. Biden and most other frauds would already be out of office and/or in jail if this were not the case. Blackmail is the biggest reason for all this Evil. Wake up and smell the smoke. A powerfully intelligent and malignant force is driving this monumental catastrophe. Civilization is in grave peril.

If you surf through 100 sites, you can get some great information and stories ... but it's all not at one site every day. You have some good aggregators like the Daily Sceptic that run a few original pieces but mostly just run some good articles from feeelancers. But these sites don't have 100 people sitting around, brainstorming, planning, working complex, time-consuming stories. What's the best Covid site you could name? How many writers does this site have working myriad Covid stories every day? Do they have 100? 200 if you count freelancers?

I think it's a numbers game. The more people you have working the stories, the more likely you are to "break" important stories.

But this isn't a mutually exclusive idea. These organizations can and should keep doing what they are doing. In fact, the news organization I envision would draw more readers to these stories.

I think such a site as I envision would be far more likely to break blockbuster stories. And that's the type stories we need to change thinking.

Good point about many people not caring about the truth. You couldn't change the thinking of many of these people, but you could change a good percentage if you shocked them with some bold truths.

How is what you’re describing different from what you find here at Substack?

It may not be as mainstream as one would hope, but there’s an endless stream of amazing independent journalists covering every node of corruption, exposing every lie and ‘conspiracy’, and every day more people are discovering this treasure trove of information...all with the benefit of being in one easily accessible location.

Good question, easy answer. We Sub-stackers are solo, low-budget operations. We need big teams working together on these complex and time-consuming stories. We need "credentialed" reporters covering every public meeting or press conference, something Substackers can't or don't do. (This would allow our reporters to ask hard and important questions that our experts never have to answer). Now this news organization I envision would work closely with Substackers. In fact, we'd be running Substack articles all the time. We'd support the best Substackers and they would support us. So that would help grow our audience or "reach" ... and that's the key to the operation - great, indisputable journalism that reaches half the country. Think about it. The scoops I envision would be read by the whole world - if you could nail these stories down ... but that takes manpower and collaboration, etc.

The hurdle you have to get past is getting that 20-30% of the population who still think the mainstream media is actual news, to believe you. Case in point: I visited my parents recently. They're both well-educated, successful people, but they only believe the MSM. They literally will buy anything those guys say (no matter how many times they're proven wrong!), and nothing anybody else says. The MSM knows this, and they love it. Even with $20 million, I don't know that you can convince brainwashed people that they're brainwashed.

That said, I hope you can, and I hope you do! It's a wonderful idea ☺☺☺.

I'd say there's 80 percent of people who need to be reached. Like you say, probably half of those are hopeless causes ... but I think 40 percent could be influenced if the stories this staff produced were that dynamic and convincing. I think 20 percent are already sane and roughly think like we do. So that might get us to 60 percent. The key though would be to get some officials and prosecutors to act. Everyone thinks Woodward and Bernstein broke Watergate. I just think they did enough to get Congress and special prosecutors to do real investigations. If DeSantis is elected and you had a real investigative journalism organization heralding these big, impossible-to-ignore stories, this you might get some hearings or maybe even Nuremberg type tribunals. The power to subpoena and get people testifying under oath is very important. But an investigative journalism organization can lay out the template of official prosecutions. I think they can go together.

Somebody along the way (Malone maybe?) said any "conspiracy theory" could be broken out as 30% unreachable, 30% already there, and 40% who could have their minds changed if they ever saw the facts. Interestingly, that's almost exactly how our political parties split out in the US: roughly 30% D, 30% R, 40% I. Coincidence? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Don't forget us non-Americans!

Millions of us around the once-free world would read your "newspaper". I have long thought that the problem with Substack is that you have to know it's there, you have to know who to read and you have to decide how many you can afford to pay for. It would be much easier to pay for a "journal" where they are all collated together. It's also a problem that the internet is so vast that many things get lost inside it - it's not like going to a newsagents and looking along the racks of papers and journals. Good luck with finding your millionaire with some spare cash!

Good point that "our" market would actually be global. I also agree about Substack. There's many great sources but you can get too many subscriptions in a hurry. So "one-stop-shop" would be an important feature. If you find me a millionaire or two, send them to my site and we can take it from there!

These things/issues/failures are as old as man. Just read Proverbs Chapter 29.

Here are some chosen quotes:

If a ruler listens to lies, all his officials become wicked.

Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.

Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.

The righteous detest the dishonest; the wicked detest the upright.

But what does God require?

He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6

In Canada there are several independent news sites that rely on public support. They are not able to use the main stream media broad casting system as far as I know but word of mouth has made many aware of who and where to hear what they report. It has to start some where and this is working in Canada to some degree and growing more and more.

Time is of the essence here. We need someone to cut a check, sign off on a line of credit, start hiring the writers and freelancers and start producing stories ASAP. The ultimate goal would be to save lives. This type journalism would save lives if it reached enough people, but you need to start getting those stories out to the public. And the big, complex stories will take time to crack, but the sooner you get started, the sooner you'll have a breakthrough.

I can't stress the importance of keeping politics out of this news organization.... I can't send anyone anything that is in anyway construed as "right wing." I remember someone asking Robert Malone why he only spoke on "right wing" shows and he answered, "no one else asks me!" So real journalists, as you say Bill, in NYC, in DC, talking with Congress people and Senators, asking for responses when presented with facts.... everything in one place...this would absolutely work. And with the way you lay it out the narrative could be torn open pretty quickly. So many institutions are holding on to directives given to them 2-3 years ago! If transmission isn't stopped for instance, why are universities requiring students to be "boosted?" There are so many lies floating around....

Hi Bill - great article mate.

I can't recall your background - have you had any business experience?

This follows up on what we spoke about a few weeks ago.

And I believe you are dead right we need such a global media organization that will step into the space that is not being filled today - real journalism that pursues the truth and is unafraid to do so.

The key is funding.

The global fascism alliance, centered around Davos multinationals investment companies and the billionaires foundations have seized control of the mainstream media and control about 90% of the global media, and are also in control of Silcon Valley now and using it as a global disinformation and censorship machine.

It's big capitalism and their funding that we are fighting.

And advertising, subscriptions and donations are the key funding sources that they use to corrupt the media.

So traditional methods of funding are not available for the creation of such an independent media organization, as anything that links to big capitalism will ultimately be corrupted by the globalists.

We need an alternative business model for cutting edge journalism.

And as I outlined a few weeks ago I think that the right model is a pay by view model, so that the consumers can consume the news they want, the journalists the want, the media organizations they like, which can be bought under this umbrella and help to fund them.

We need a start up that creates this - and in the truth starved world if you create an opportunity for people to hear voices with more insightful research from across the globe, and let the consumers pay per view a few cents for each article or video they watch - I believe this would create a new model that could end the monopoly of big business on the media.

Ivan

Expand full comment
Bill Rice, Jr.'s avatar

Ivan, we need to team up here. The "pay by view" model could be the salvation of journalism and the world. Many years ago I read a piece by somebody (I think from the MSM) who talked about "micro payments" for journalists. I don't know why that couldn't be done. Just put $15/month in some kind of Pay Pal- like account. You could read a few paragraphs or synopsis of some big story. If it piqued your interest, you could buy the rest of it. It might just cost you two cents or a nickel. But if a million people read that story, the author just made $50,000!

Substack is a variation of that. People can pay or not pay for our content. If you get 4 percent that do pay and get enough readers, you can make a very nice living ... and you control your own content.

... I once owned my own weekly newspaper in my hometown so I have been in business for myself before. It's not for sissies. I've also sold a lot of advertising so I do more than just write stories. Being a journalist and an advertising rep helps you learn a little more about business. I've dealt with almost every kind of business.

I'm struck by the fact that "truth-telling" news organizations with huger audiences have hardly any paid advertising from the corporate world. You can count out the big companies for advertising support.

I like it. Thanks. Let's turn this into a real business. Maybe 10 investors putting in $2 million each. Heck, you could sell shares. The concept is investigative journalism that is not being done. The assumption is there would be a market for high-quality and important investigative journalism.

I can picture a national site ... but also 50 different sites for 50 different states ... as state level investigative journalism is awful these days as well. You could probably franchise the concept or the "brand" once the brand has been established.

I love the idea. You should think ELON wants to put the MSM out of business (he liked a tweet that suggested it). He's got the capital and the pull to help you if there was a way to partner your idea with his business model.

I think the timing of your idea is excellent because the ratings on ALL of the MSM except for tucker carlson alone are tanking. FOX is despised by everyone that doesn't live in the villages. I dont trust Rupert and his liberal son is being left FOX. Rupert is in his 90's.

You would have to account for spies. They are in EVERY major news organization driving narratives. To really be a go to destination you need some tv and air time for massive marketing but whos gonna let you? You would be wanting to compete with them. I dont have a solution for that, leads me back to Elon. He gave 3 investigative sub stack writers access to do their thing so long as they published some stuff on Twitter first.

It was a little messy, this formula could be tweaked for a smoother presentation. Teasers on Twitter, full story with your organization. If you are on Twitter everyday, you see Tracy beanz , Greenwald, taibbi, berenson, other investigating types getting more exposure there than their substack. Also I dont want to

Go multiple substacks and pay multiple monthly fees for writers. Your idea of one umbrella works for me with one fee.

I REALLY don't want to go to multiple web sites of these writers, thats just too much time wasted. Substack sort of addresses that but its still a little cumbersome. So yes, great idea but 100,000,000 from Elon for seed money and ideas would be more realistic than any money from a bank ready to use ESG scores as soon as they can.

I'm a big fan of Paul "Bear" Bryant. My late father played football for him at Alabama so I've become kind of a student of Bryant. When he went to Texas A&M as coach, some big city sports editor heard that Bryant was "stirring things up" and sent a young reporter to Junction to see what was going on. The reporter showed up and reported what he'd heard. Bryant said (paraphrasing) "If I haven't stirred things up yet, I'm going to." In other words, he was going to cause a commotion and make things happen. That's the way I view this business idea. Just stir things up. Start shaking things and challenging people. Something is going to break or come of it. Nothing is going to happen ... if nothing new happens.

Probably setting myself up for a thrashing.

Taking the long view.

The covid story will have a life cycle. 20 years? Less? Longer?

As for the rest, absolutes are often proven wrong so to claim there will *always* be psychopaths is probably a stretch. But what do I know? Meaning specifically psychopaths that have created Corbett’s pathocracy.

https://corbettreport.substack.com/p/dissent-into-madness-escaping-the

My point is while I agree that the power driving deep corruption absolutely [sic] needs to be exposed, challenged and brought down, this could in theory actually happen. How long is that life cycle? Half a century? Full century?

In my crazy mind the organization you propose should have written into its charter or mission an inviolable fundamental acknowledgement of its raison d’être and once its time has passed, something that will become obvious as the organization will incrementally shrink in response to its mission, the board (or guiding-governing structure) must be bound to dissolve the entity. That day is a long way off. But I think it’s important to hold the entity to its stated purpose and allow it to slowly report itself out of existence.

I suspect few if any of us will be alive at such a time. But maybe not!? A gal can hope. Business by their nature exist to perpetuate themselves. This is one business that, in my mind, needs to exist to see itself become part of history, proudly, with integrity. If anybody’s in it for the “wrong” reasons -which, when speaking about half centuries or a century is not likely anything a founder will be able to track - that won’t happen. I find that problematic from the get-go.

But I’m just a lone old gray mare who’s fond of integrity and truth.

Might want to start cooking something else up in the early days, something that *would* survive the “necessary” extinction of the original organization? Build it in.

Stream of consciousness as I read about your big, well-intentioned, and good idea whose time may have arrived but should by the nature of its mission intentionally go the way of the dinosaur. In its proper time. No intention to offend or be a water logged blanket.
