One key point that many seem to miss about the 'fact checkers' is there is no way to debate them or tell them they are wrong. No way to tell Facebook or other social media companies using them to censor speech that they are wrong. Yes, you can send them a letter that they will ignore. That does no good. It needs to be public.

They are publicly blocking our speech and making it look like we are the liars, then hiding from any debate on the subject. The worlds most qualified expert can't tell them they are wrong, they will be blocked behind a fact check notice.

Censorship does 3 things:

It prevents the listener from hearing another idea or thought.

It prevents the speaker from being heard.

It prevents the person distorting the truth from appearing to be the idiot that they are.

The last one is key to making them be laughed off the internet.

In one of my earlier email posts at Brownstone, I told Jeffrey Tucker he should challenge the key people at NewsGuard to a public debate. On one side, you could have a couple of authorities from NewsGuard. On the other side, a couple of Brownstone's best-known writers. Sell tickets to the debate and split the proceeds between both groups.

I know NewsGuard wouldn't accept. I'd hitch-hike to wherever the debate was if I got to participate.

If NewsGuard receive government (taxpayer - original was "tax payer", but I'd be surprised if it were other than "income tax" and Federal Reserve) money to advance its anti-free speech mission, it's evidence of treason. Someone needs to hang. You have your mission, Rep. James Comer! And Jeffrey Tucker needs to demand disclosure of NewsGuard's "fact-checker"'s funding and assignment.

Avoid patronizing Fortune 500 companies and all clients of the big advertising companies to whatever extent you can.

It's crossed my mind that I'd love it if someone organized a boycott of all the companies that hate free speech. That is, boycott the companies that are boycotting the companies that are still practicing free speech.

The problem with this idea is we'd have to boycott EVERY big company in the world ... and some of their products we probably HAVE to buy to live.

You are right on the money, SaHiB. There is tremendous power that the mostly 8 billion people of the planet have: quit buying convenience and social conformity. Realize the power of one's purse: mercatogenesis, the creation of markets that benefit you and your interests---not the plutocrats. And it takes the intelligent purveyance of usable information as is done by good journalists. They need not be perfect, only sufficient in supplying some--even mixed--information that can be used to triangulate to reality. (We could get into how reliably false messages can be used in bracketing and confirmation tests, but that is an advanced topic for another place.)

Fact checking like most of what teh corrupt use, was not the creation of the elites they just highjacked it and perverted it for their own use. Fact Checking or "debunking" sites have been around for decades but it wasn't until the Trump/Brexit victories that forced the elite to co--opt the industry for it's own use.

Everything the globalist elites touch turns to shit

Maybe there ought be another group of fact-checkers out there...in fact, maybe here we are - fact-checkers who would just assume not be....

Good point, Ken. We are "fact-checkers" of a different sort. That's why Reader Comments are so important.

Fact-checkers have been around for decades - but the type of fact-checkers - and their real goals - have changed dramatically in the last four years.

But fact checkers have always been around! Since like forever!

Bill, off topic, but I'll throw this out in case you think it is worthy of an article.

Good topic. Thanks for your question. I wrote or cross-posted an article a couple of months ago that said, I believe, the CDC said it was about 14 percent, which means this is a lie and the real percentage must be much lower. I'll try to research this.

Anything and everything the "fact checkers" assert I chuck in the bull-shale pail. I wouldn't have said that before covid but I sure do now. As for Brownstone, that is a splendid source of good information and thoughtful writing.

Before Covid, we didn't have an army of "fact-checkers." Now that we do, every smart person knows they are the real defenders of disinformation. So people are figuring it out.

You've highlighted hundreds of every-day citizens who have been victims of this Orwellian trend.

Thanks for helping to further expose NewsGuard Bill.

They are a [disguised] military unit and that is quite obvious.

I have exposed them before in my long Covid series for their dubious "fact-checking."

More recentely, I exposed how they use their operatives to actually write bills - in this case Bill C-63 (a massive censorship bill in Canada). I wrote an entire article exposing the actors behind this bill which includes NewsGuard in the U.S. as well as the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University (http://cyber.harvard.edu/).

Here is the relevant section in my post and how NewGuard used its Canadian operatives to get this bill in tip-top shape for introduction into our Parliament:

Section 3. Bill Gates & the World Health Organization (WHO), NewsGuard & Edward Greenspon

https://fournier.substack.com/i/142704496/bill-gates-and-the-world-health-organization-who-newsguard-and-edward-greenspon

If I were you (and Jeffrey Tucker), I'd dig a little deeper to see which operatives NewsGuard may have used to write/introduce given bills in the U.S. That's just speculation on my part for now, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if they somehow got a hand in this kind of thing. My instincts are usually right...

Cheers,

Actually, I only also "surface scanned" some of NewGuard's [mis]doings. I'm sure if I put my full skill set to work, I'd uncover a lot more. But I have bigger fish to fry these days, as they say.

It will be interesting to see what Biden AI Robot they bring out next week in the supposed debate against Trump. You guys sure are in for one strange [s]election this year!

Bill, I proudly joined your subscriber base a couple of weeks ago and am among the 298 - hopefully surpassing the 300 subscriber milestone very soon!

Congratulations on joining the Brownstone Institute slate of writers...you're in great company. Also NewsGuard is a sham organization (I think started by Steven Brill) and is a full member of the Censorship Industrial Complex that has been discussed at length by Michael Shellenberger of Public and Matt Taibbi of Racket News. Michael and Matt were among a handful of courageous journalists who brought the Twitter Files to light - and thus illuminated the government's efforts to silence voices dissenting from "approved" narratives. If you haven't subscribed or collaborated with them I think you should as you are very aligned with their mission.

Thanks Mark. Matt Taibbi and his team have done heroic work on this topic. I am very familiar with their extremely-important work. I also am a paid subscriber at Matt's site and regularly make posts in his Reader Comments section. (If I could get 1 percent of the paid subscribers Matt has, I'd be rich and at the beach right now).

I think they coined the term "Censorship Industrial Complex," which we are all using now. That complex "is bigger than U.S. Steel!"

I'm not excusing corporations, but this is all on the govt.

Without govt coercion and money-laundering style funding of the NGOs, the censorship/cancelling complex would collapse.

I can't get angry about this anymore, but it still makes me sad that we are funding our own oppression.

Holy shit -I just ordered some pillows from my pillow as well as some socks - but the "tracking" tool they have is pathetic - even if the shipment is on the way - are you saying my pillow ain't going to be delivered Bill?

And pleases for goodness sake that was a rhetorical question - please keep reporting fair and know this - if you do you will have subscribers - be they at SubStack or elsewhere.

I ordered 2 pillows and 3 socks - and they better be top notch quality - cause if they ain't I reckon I wasted funds....

Anywho - been obvious for a long time - the so-called "fact checkers" are just another entity subsumed by those who think they get to define reality - oh how wrong they are.
