you can watch what they do...Trump went to very open and non covid sport of UFC in April....all these big media companies are woke.....and big organizations...hell the NCAA doesn't even stand up for women's sports....as an ex athlete at Alabama, that also pisses me off. go woke, go broke!
Maybe some people find watching others perform to be their most memorable moments. Personally, all the things that stand out in my memory are things I did, none are things I watched. So even though I enjoy watching sports, I don't consider it a big loss to swear off all the overpaid woke idiots. I will watch UFC, since it's both great and non-woke. But ever since they hooked up with ESPN I've lost a lot of interest in them too.
In Australia it was baked into the players' contracts. No talking about the vaccine - it's safe and effective. End of discussion. If they breach contract they are out.
Wow. But I'm not surprised. I asked the SEC (sports league in America) a series of questions about Covid. They wouldn't answer 95 percent of them. For example, they said they didn't know or couldn't release info on the percentage of athletes who tested positive who were asymptomatic.
That's what I'd have to do ... and then it would take five months to get some of the info I requested - and what I got would be heavily redacted.
The colleges, via their non-stop testing of athletes, were actually in a great position to do some important scientific studies. For example, what percentage of positive athletes were symptomatic? How many athletes had to be hospitalized?
Again, they don't study that which they do not want to "confirm."
Bill...you took the words right out of my mouth. This is the post I just made to someone who asked me 'why I am not looking at x dataset.'
"Because I'm exhaused. I am totally and completely exhausted and cannot be fucked. They will do whatever they want to us and no one cares long enough to look up from the footy. I focus on other things now, mainly not being thrown in a camp and subject to "safe and effective" electro shock therapy for wrongthink https://www.healthdirect.gov.au/electroconvulsive-therapy-ect
Hopefully someone will pick up the torch in this area but I just cannot bear it anymore. Joel Smalley (who does Dead Man Talking) recently expressed similar feelings. People who do this for a living...just cannot do this anymore. The gaslighting and fighting is too much. The lying and searching and coverups and fighting to get methods out in the open. The deleted interim data sets. We're done.
Bon voyage! You're on you're own now! *sips cocktail*"
I understand, but God help us if people like you abandon the fight.
One of my latest theories is that the Powers that Be are simply going to "wait out" most of the contrarian Substack authors. They must know that many of us cannot keep doing this for years unless we get a teachers' salary in income from paid subscribers.
My hope is that Substack readers also realize this and, those who can, will subsidize our work, which would at least allow Substack to be a counter to the mainstream "gatekeepers of the news."
I'm afraid economic conditions might interrupt sports. The A's MLB franchise is really struggling to draw. I'm not sure college football is going to happen. We've got to get through the summer without a banking collapse. I don't know if the MLB will make it to the World Series this year.
I'm a college football junky raised in MAC country. The Sun Belt has been terrific the last few years. I started watching more of the Sun Belt a few years back when a powerful Western Michigan team went down to Georgia Southern and got crushed by 30 points in a game they were supposed to win. Then Laffy-Lou crushed Ohio in a home and home--demonstrating the talent gap between the MAC and the Sun Belt. The '21 Rajin Cajons had a great defense (and I expect them to play great D again this year, and be back up at the top of the standings, [if the season happens]). Troy is a great program. The Sun Belt is the most fun league with a lot of young talented teams that play up at home. Every single Sun Belt game is on my radar, but not all are on TV.
Yep. The economics of most sports programs are not encouraging. Rampant inflation has to be killing programs in the smaller conferences, which need those big pay-day games with SEC teams to survive. Due to ESPN TV contracts, the "blue blood" programs will be fine. The NFL prospers solely on TV contracts. Attendance figures don't matter as much. I've also noted declining attendance at MLM games. An easy "work-around" for money-worrying fans is to not go to games, or go to far fewer games.
All of this said, Troy had its best-season in D I ever this past year. We finished No. 19 in the country. Amazing. Our new coach made all the difference.
it is an interesting point, somehow so obvious i never thought of it.
the obedient lapdogs of the sports media became hysterical and vindictive narrative-enforcement agents and yet ZERO professional atheletes died of Covid. ZERO
so much for Black Plague 2.0
it's hard for those of us raised in 20th century America to admit it, but we live in an ideological surveillance state much like the evil Soviet empire we spent 50 yrs fighting.
All our state media outlets hate us and demand quiet obedience under penalty of social ostracism. No one should give any of these companies a single click.
I've been harping on ZERO Covid deaths of pro athletes (and college athletes) from May 2020. FWIW, I sent emails to many sports reporters pointing this out ... so they know this too. They just won't report it.
You could go further. There might have been just a handful of college and pro athletes in the entire country who were even "hospitalized" with Covid. This is out of about five to 10 million college athletes. If you count college athletes who played some sport b/w 2020 and 2023, that would include junior colleges, NAIA, NCAA Divisions III, II, I-AA and Division I - both male and female sports -from women's water polo to men's football - walk-ons and scholarshipped athletes. I mean, do the "mortality" and "hospitalization" math.
Zero deaths. Maybe three or four hospitalizations (and these people were fine).
Adding pro athletes would make the percentages more minuscule - something like 0.0001 percent hospitalization risk..
even if i live for 1000 yrs i will never get over the mass panic and conformity orchestrated by our media state and eagerly swallowed by all the Good Germans out there who were willing to obey every edict coming from their screens as long as it gave them a socially approved excuse to attack their political opponents.
The digital herd moves in unison now and they have not learned a single lesson. We will have climate lockdowns before this decade is out, and 9 out of 10 people will gladly go along.
Oh how I used to love the crisp fall days enjoying college football games. Hug stadiums packed with loyal and enthusiastic fans. Face painting. All of it. Sadly, for all the reasons you state, I am boycotting college football and all professional sports. Morally, I have to. I now wholly support high school athletes and all other forms of sports that are not televised and the only sponsors are local businesses. Thinking globally and acting locally. Go Little League!!!
Regarding sports: my grandson was a member of the Alaska State champion little league team that earned the privilege of going to the Little League World Series in 2021 in San Bernardino , CA. The team arrived early in order to acclimate. They were all “tested” and one kid turned up positive but not sick. These kids were summarily denied occupancy of the dorms and were made to stay 10 days in a hotel because the airlines would not allow them back on. They could not play ball and were treated like vermin. We drove over from Texas to watch them play, only to find this situation. Not to waste a trip, the team went to the SD Zoo, a Padres game and another game in Anaheim, thanks to coaches that wanted so much to make lemonade out of the situation. 7 other teams were denied the opportunity to represent their state in the tournament. These boys will never be twelve again. Thanks to bureaucratic idiocy, that game never got played. P.S. Hawaii team had three test positive but because they were all jabbed, they were allowed to continue to play.
Close a door, open a window. When they cancelled the The Players Championship in Sawgrass in March 2020 it resulted in a domino effect of cancelations and shutdowns through the spring resulting in closures of more than half of all US golf facilities- estimated to be a loss of 20M rounds. But by the end of the year, golf saw a 50-million-round increase in 2020 over 2019, largely attributed to the physical and mental benefits of being outside, enjoying green space and exercise. That should have been bigger news... but why would media celebrate families who weren't fear bound vs. wanted to stay active, outdoors and healthy.
I can barely throw batting practice to my 7-year-old son. I definitely need some exercise. I'd have to start off by trying to walk around the block. I know I'd kill myself if I put on a pair of ice skates!

The leftist grievance groups are only getting started!
soon it will seep into every part of our lives. Those evil gas stove users,
wasteful toilet flushers, gluttonous eaters, and people living in homes that are much too large for them according to the government .
It is getting sickening
I guess you read my recent "hot take" on the gas stove banners. Yes, they are just getting started. That's what scares me.
Read up on Stalin's "De-kulikization program" to learn about "it's just getting started" -- we are however, getting there...
I'm still trying to get my mind around the plastic straws thing.
I'm going to try to email you my questions today!
Don’t forget, those toilet paper wasters.
The "current thing"
Destroy all that conservatives enjoy.
Also, destroy the Constitution (and genuine liberty and freedom).
You are exactly right

Get a FOIA if there is any connection with government and vax promotion. Could be interesting.

Ask your wife.
I’m not a huge sports guy; being a long time Breveland Clowns fan has that effect.
But also don’t understand the actions they are taking that you describe.
Even the Romans kept the circuses going to mollify the citizens. Why they’d ruin sports is a mystery.

I stopped watching all sports when they bent the knee, kapernick style. It’s nice not caring about the outcome of a game that I’m not even playing
I know one 6ft 9 woman who ain't kneeling no mo.

The last words to come out of Charles Barkley's mouth ending this season?
Bud Light.
Was it a joke ?
Was it a protest?
Was it support ?
Of course, it could have just been a brain fart.
Why don't you join an amateur slow-pitch league or hockey team, something like that? You're participating in REAL sports -- and get some exercise!
I can barely throw batting practice to my 7-year-old son. I definitely need some exercise. I'd have to start off by trying to walk around the block. I know I'd kill myself if I put on a pair of ice skates!

the individuals on the teams change, the ambition changes
The performance isn't as enthusiastic. This generation has been overly praised for little things.
The (woke) "Participation Trophy" trend.
which results is over paid "professionals" that are completely ignorant.
I live 5 miles from "Redskins" park. All of these guys drive lambos, maserati's
and many other very high $$ cars.
A former Alabama running back now with the Redskins got shot when some thugs tried to steal his car!
I dumped sports long ago. Tv I general is a hUge waste of time!
