Literally hours ago, I made an appointment to have my dogs' rabies titers pulled. I am in LA. I will not comply with rabies vax requirement, if their levels are sufficient. And may not comply if they aren't.

Frontera Lupita's avatar

I have heard that in CA, certain counties (I believe all) don’t honor ‘rabies titers’ in lieu of the ‘rabies shots’. It’s a lame county thing, in part to collect the pet license fees. I figured this out with San Diego County and I stopped doing the rabies shots when my dogs was maybe 5 or 6. I said on the license renewal & rabies vaxx form when it came …”dog no longer in the area”! She lived to be 16.

All vets are in on the rabies booster SCAM. I told my vet I was done with the rabies shots.

My brother who lives on a rural property in San Diego County…where there is parvo, rabies & distemper,…he only vaccinates his dogs twice and that’s it! He never revaccinates them.

There's probably a few places where rabies vaccines make sense, but not in most urban settings or most city subdivisions.

I wonder how many pet owners ask their vets for the latest rabies mortality statistics before they get their dogs' their shots. Do they/we ask for or receive "informed consent."

I will do that: claim they don't live locally. Can they track them with the freaking chip though?

Expand full comment
Frontera Lupita's avatar

Is the chip registered with the vet or county? I never was into the ‘chips’ either…yes it does help if they are lost or meet an untimely end of their life, but I always viewed it as yet another surveillance state mechanism…now the ‘authorities’ know you and your pets. Don’t you have to pay to keep the chip active?…realize a chip is tied to a satellite…Got EMF’s? I just always felt to ‘chip’ a pet was a barbaric practice, but that’s just where I come from.

When you get the license renewal from the county if there is a box like I checked, do so. The only issue is if your dogs bite someone or another dog. Though my dog was a herding dog and was prone to nip (cattle dog) I kept serious tabs on her when we were out. I also told people she was really not a ‘friendly’ dog!😉

Just read this:

https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/68/wr/mm6823e1.htm

2 human deaths 2018 ..."approximately" WTF does that even mean?

Each year, rabies causes approximately 59,000 deaths worldwide, including approximately two deaths in the United States. Rabies can be prevented with timely administration of postexposure prophylaxis (PEP).

5 human deaths in 2022…from bats

Expand full comment
Frontera Lupita's avatar

Regardless of the statistics on rabies death, you can’t fight the BS bureaucracy of the veterinary medicine field, in collusion with county and state governments. I say after you get the rabies titers back, if they have immunity, pass on the shots going forward. If you haven’t learned anything over the past four years from the Scamdemic, ‘The System’ (both human and pet healthcare delivery system, no matter where you turn) is corrupt and is not looking out for you or your pet’s best health interests. It’s ALL About The $$$. The pet food and pet product industry is a millions of dollars business, as is your average veterinary practice…a ‘cash cow’ as they say.

People will spend thousands of dollars on their pets at a veterinary visit. And are the results with the thousands of dollars you spends worth it…frankly NO IMO.

I just had this happen in the past year with a cat I now have after my ACD Roxy passed in 2022, at an emergency vet visit. What I did at home and with every health event going forward with my cat, was a way more effective treatment, than what the stupid vet prescribed and the tests they ran. I say get on the ‘down low’, and pull yourself out of system.

And I still don’t like the idea of a chip, or something that is imbedded in an animal or in a human for that matter, that can be scanned digitally, and or tracked. But as I’ve said consistently, that’s my feeling and opinion on the chip issue.

Expand full comment
Bill Rice, Jr.'s avatar

What's the deal on these titer tests? Do you have to pay the vet to do the titer tests? I guess these involve a blood draw, which can't be comfortable to the pet.

Most chip companies don't contact animal control unless the shelter impounds a stray and discovers a chip, at that point it's only to find ownership information. Most shelters randomly vaccinate dogs as soon as they are impounded as a preventative to disease at the shelter.

A cruelty and so much worse. My wife won't speak to my cousin when we found out he took his dog out to the country and abandoned him. Left him on the road and drove off. I already knew he is a garbage human and now he is dead to me. We would have taken the dog if we had known.

😭😭😭 Oh how awful. We once found a female Doberman who had been put out of her home onto a dirt road probably because she was pregnant to an unapproved male. Two weeks after we brought her home she gave us 12 mixed breed puppies. We found homes for 10 and kept 2. She had been on the road for several weeks by our estimation and never got over the experience of being hungry. And then this Christmas we found a puppy on a dirt road and brought him home. He too hadn’t eaten in a while since his excitement over food is over the top. I don’t think they ever get over that. Dogs need homes and love, just like we do.

Shortly after my dad passed, my mom handed me a shoe box with every letter I've ever written to my dad. She told me, "You are a very gifted writer. Don't ever stop writing."

She would be upset with me if I didn't share that charge with you. Do not ever stop writing.

And write letters to your kids! In 20+ years, only the FBI will be able to find texts and emails and social media you posts sent them. But they will never lose those letters. Ever.

That’s my problem with my Husky. In order to do fun classes (sniffing and obstacle) with her here in Ann Arbor Mi, she MUST be up to date on shots. She can also be an escape artist so she is chipped, tho not by me but her previous owner. We adopted her at 9 months. She is very prey driven so when she does manage to slip her harness/leash, she gleefully follows every scent to catch a critter and while small rodents don’t spread rabies, larger ones do. She has killed a vole, a rabbit and a sick bird so far. She has even brought a toad into the house but luckily he survived. I don’t think she knew what to do with it, it was more like a toy to her. Another problem if she’s not rabies vaxxed and she gets out, someone could claim she bit them even tho she is not a biter and she loves all people, I worry they could sue. I am unlike her and not very trusting lol. Unfortunately, an invisible fence won’t work due to her very thick neck hair and we are in a Condo so no regular fence either. All my cats going back 20+ years have never been vaxxed because they never left the house. I did have a vet vax shame me years ago, saying my family could bring bad things into the household so my cats were at risk. IIRC he meant on clothes and shoes etc. but it made no sense to me. Kind of like Covid lived on packages and they all had to be wiped down etc which was ridiculous. Me and my immediate family members have not fallen for the “safe and effective” propaganda either and we are very proud of that. Thanks for a telling such a wonderful story. I probably would have kept the puppy tho. Wouldn’t have been able to resist!

when I got my Tippi I was amazed that the vet gave her several jabs for the fleas she had when I got her. Only after 3 months and a few more jabs, I learned from the old vet, that 1. these were not flea meds but injections for all kinds of illnesses 2. that the young vet should not have given her any since they don't develop immune system of their own until 6 months and 3. that she would not have give any yet.

So I watched out to get with the older vet who unfortunately, retired shortly after. She did not give any chemical meds but rather homeopathic and natural stuff.

Another vet, another vet, another vet.... finally we found one almost an hour's drive away, who is not into jabs at all. Tippi had one more rabies jab. Not anymore! We had one rabid dog in the town, in all the 20 years I am here - and was it rabies? who can tell! We live very rural, but hardly get to see more than a few deer and now and then, boars or a single fox far off!

Thank you for these wonderful dog stories. Hopefully Rufus has just a good home like Annie and Tippi have!

One day I was on the phone and turned to see our cat Harley sitting and staring eyeball to eyeball with a wild racoon also sitting. They couldn't have been more than 12 inches apart. I shooed the racoon away. Many years later she got bit by something and died about 6 months later at the ripe old age of 17. She was an indoor and outdoor cat and had a good life. Our current cat is strictly an indoor cat, just so long as he learns that he is not second in the pecking order. He knows I am boss but he picks on my wife. He might be a goner to join the outdoor mousers if he keeps nipping at her. Oh and after we figured out the vaccine scam there have been no more shots for Tribble or us.

I've always been a "dog person," but when i was dating my soon-to-be wife she got a kitty, Jasper, who I became very attached to.

We got Jasper's front claws removed but not his back claws. This allowed him to climb out of our tall back-yard fence and roam around the neighborhood.

One day, when my now-wife was out of town, he came back home and was sick. That night, I rushed him to the only 24-hour vet in Montgomery and he passed away that night. To this day, I do not know what killed Jasper. The vet couldn't tell us. He must have gotten into something. I wondered if he'd been bitten by a snake, but the vet would have seen that. I wonder if he was poisoned by some neighbor or accidentally ate some kind of poison.

Expand full comment
Fred Jewett's avatar

I am sorry about Jasper. Yes some people hate cats so much they put out poison. These are disgusting people who don't realize that other wild animals might get poisoned as well. They fail to realize that cats remove mice from the surrounding area, a fringe benefit. We've got half a dozen around here that roam from farm to farm looking for mice. One great mouser would come back here to her kittens 2 or 3 times a day with a mouse dangling from her mouth.
