Remember that until Freeland wrote her "designate them as terrorists" note, the protest was completely legal. That's why the Canadian government was having such a difficult time with it. (It's the modern day version of the sit-in.)
It's crazy the government would charge this guy when the protest was only 'illegal' after government 'illegally' proclaimed it to be illegal.
I still think this had the potential to be the equivalent of the Boston Team Party protest of 250 years ago. The difference between America's most significant protest and the Canadian truckers' grassroots' protest is that no "leaders" in the world rallied behind the truckers' cause. Also, nobody significant in the media. The media voices were adamant the protest was a "threat" to democracy.
It costs nothing for the government to bring these cases forward, since it's all underwritten by the taxpayer. There is no cost born by those in government, since all branches cover each other and there's no accountability. It's the same in all "first world" countries, the problem is the structure and size of government.
Not that it would ever happen, but I think prosecutors should be personally subject to the same fines and penalties as they people they have charged. If they try a person for a crime that involves a five thousand dollar fine, and lose, the prosecutor personally has to pay a five thousand dollar fine. The same thing for time in prison.
It may sound absurd, but the more you think about it, the more it makes sense.
This was a theme in one of Frank Herbert's SF novels, maybe "Whipping Star."
I frequently throw a comment at The Epoch Times when the reporter neglects to name the prosecutor and judge (in Canada the prosecutor is conventionally identified as "the Crown.")
This would not be needed if more people were aware of jury nullification. In the US, the jury system is rigged. The way around it is to vote your conscience. Jurors should be chosen at random and then evaluate the facts of the case and the justness of the law. That's how it was supposed to be. This was known up to about 100 years ago and even admitted in a supreme court opinion. Read Lysander Spooner's Trial by Jury. He is ignored in law school for a reason though he was a lawyer. This also touches upon the concept of precedent. Every case is unique with different facts involved so relying on "precedent" is just a mechanism to control the masses (hat tip Marx, hahaha).
As an individualist I've always recognized that members of a jury can decide what they want, regardless of instructions from the judge. The idea of a jury is that the defendant's peers can assess the entirety, not just whatever the judge wants them to consider.
It should be, but discussion of JN is grounds for a mistrial. You will never hear a defendant's attorney discuss it. You can't hold up signs mentioning it in front of a court house. The system is controlled and monitored. Go, freedom!
Ah, but here we are, talking about it. Get the word out there, ahead of time. It's our government; it's our courts. Ultimately it's up to us to decide the close calls, not the government.
In the US, there is the concept of sovereign immunity, a made-up idea used to keep the people in bondage and those in government in control. We have a government of some people, by some people, for some people. In Canada, given their people's Charter of Rights and Freedoms, it's like our constitution, just words on paper, where every definitive statement becomes a Barnum statement, and Barnum statements become absolute.
The reason Trudeau did what he and the gov. did is because we embarrassed them, we showed them how we could peacefully have our voices heard, they hated us for that, hence jail for some, court cases for others. We are living under communism.
If this isn't evil what is? They shut his business down for a week so he couldn't make any money; took away his town council salary for a month; made him pay for the donations people voluntarily donated, sent him a bill for the fuel he used to drive his trucks to Ottawa and then prosecuted him for four ridiculous charges. It seems he got pro bono legal help or else he would have incurred tens of thousands of dollars in legal bills.
And think of all the time he had to spend working on his defense; time that should have been spent running his business.
I followed this closely and still call the Canadian truckers heroes. Through fortuitous happenstance, I ended up interviewing several Canadian truckers, live from Ottowa, for our American audience. They were terrific and the entire thing was the cleanest, neatest, kindest, most wonderful protest I've ever seen... until Leftist goon squads attacked the protestors.
I am blessed, and I thank God every day, that I do not to live in a U.K. country. Or, any of the leftist lunatic-run countries. Or, where they are so afraid of their women they cover them in personal tents, use them as slaves (sexual and domestic), and beat them for any infraction (real or imagined) of their Stone Age rules.
The intention is to install this in the U.S. as well. In fact, parts of the country are much closer to this than people realize. We either fight it now or become just like the U.K. in about 10 years.
I agree. I see it every day on alternative media sites. I just hope people will stand against it before it is too late. When half the country thinks leftist, there is no room for lack of vigilance and action.
Thanks for highlighting this Canadian story which is far from "good news." It offers evidence of the ruthless of the Liberal government in seeking to quash the Truckers Freedom Convoy as if Truckers (we) were a Canadian version of the rargets of the Democratic Party based on allegations concerning Jan. 6, 2012.
The election succession from Trudeau brought to power the former PM's own selected successor, Mark Carney, a personification of a WEF-style Bankster expert in the political economy of netzero,/climate change/carbon taxation and all the toxic bull. The issue of the manufactured Covid crisis never came up in the Canadian election because all the political parties and all the MSM media (but especially the CBC) were behind the same set of disastrous, anti-science positions which were never debated in Parliament etc. Of course this was (and is) the rule, not the exception, in the era of 2020 to present. See my essay on the disappearing of Covidian matters from any role in the recent Canadian election.
The system is truly rigged. We all have to thank Bill Rice for getting very explicit in showing how Substack Inc. is part of the rigging helping to elevate cheating, rigging and truth avoidance in woke-lib journalism.
I couldn't believe it, when I read through this piece, I still got the same feelings of excitement, good will, relief and gratitude I had watching the Convoy 3 years and 3 months ago.
I keep saying that The Convoy was the first and greatest happiness I'd experienced in a long while - akin to the birth of my first child, or falling in love.
I wanted to be there in person so much!
Even if it meant nearly freezing to death.
God Bless all who participated in the Convoy in good will for humanity.........I donated to many of the citizen journalists on the ground that I followed day and night.

Who would call these great and civic-minded people "terrorists?" Oh, terrorists in our governments.
Chrystia Freeland? wasn’t she World Economic forum trained? I am pretty sure these people consider themselves above the law

“Threat to democracy” is the new mantra of the overlords .

I always thought that if you were found to be innocent then all costs, AND LOSSES, were to be born by the 'losers' - is this not the case?

This is the theme of Brian Peckford's Wordpress blog.
He is the only surviving principal signatory of the Charter and has been spat out of court on these issues.
The reason Trudeau did what he and the gov. did is because we embarrassed them, we showed them how we could peacefully have our voices heard, they hated us for that, hence jail for some, court cases for others. We are living under communism.
Yes, you are.
And so the Canadian government basically stole from this man, the value of the food and cash contributions. What an evil government.

Thanks, Anthony.
Thank you Bill Rice for writing this story.
Thanks, Howard ... I figured it wasn't going to get any mainstream media coverage and only a few stories in the alternative press.
Yes, THANK YOU Bill Rice Jr.!

The governments of most, if not all western countries governed by parliamentary systems have become tyrants and enemies of freedom.
Thank you Bill for sharing this story of government persecution of innocent folks from the Canadian Truckers protest.
Trudeau is the one who deserved prosecution.
I do podcast guesting throughout the world and 1 of the hosts of a Canada cast did a exposé you NEED to see on the trucker legal 🇨🇳 🖇

Having never followed Canadian politics, I always thought Canada was pretty much like the US. After the convoy I saw Canada more like Russia West.
