Cutting room floor text - final paragraph:

So President Trump, and all his trusted advisors, were just as interested in the start dates of virus spread as I am. They just thought virus spread hadn’t really had a chance to multiply significantly in America. They never even considered the possibility that “early spread” might have occurred. (Of course, I think a few key officials must have known this and went to great efforts to conceal this non-trivial fact/possibility).

More cutting room floor text ...

While the spike in deaths in one section of Italy bolstered the lockdown argument, this outbreak should have also proven that virus spread had already commenced (outside of China) and couldn’t be meaningfully stopped … as too many people had also travelled back and forth from Italy to America.

The outbreak on the Diamond Princess cruise ship (dating to February 1) should have also constituted evidence that people from scores of countries had already been infected (also, that this virus was not a mortality risk to anyone under the age of 70).

Still, lockdowns were ordered to slow or stop virus spread, which the public was supposed to believe hadn’t really begun in American communities (and only on a “limited” basis) until the second half of February. (The first “confirmed” case in America was on January 20, a traveller who had recently returned from Wuhan).
