Moving the Needle ….

The Resistance is growing. The Evil Empire is absorbing hits on its flanks from the underground army in the Substack hinterlands.

I vacillate between making “Debbie Downer” posts and “Hope lives/keep hope alive!” posts. This one falls into the latter category.

Eighteen months ago I’d never heard of Steve Kirsch. Heck, I didn’t even know that Substack existed.

Today, I’m trying to lead the movement to start a “Truth Seeker” Hall of Fame and nominate Steve for the inaugural class.

Nor am I alone. Millions of people now know who Steve Kirsch is. For every friend of Steve’s who removed him from their Christmas card list, Steve gained 30,000 new friends and admirers. In a few months Steve went from a “tech entrepreneur” to the No. 1 “super-spreader of misinformation” in the world. Of course, this really means Steve is the No. 1 spreader of truth in the world. As Don King used to say, “Only in America!”

All the while I was bemoaning the Big Brother censorship of Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Google, etc.,  little Substack was growing like a mushroom. As it turns out, real journalism and great and original writing were only dead at the mainstream news sites. Out there in the hinterlands, excellent writers, savvy researchers, fact-checkers of the fact-checkers and real journalists were reporting for duty and taking control of the Internet.

I should have known that the official journalists would of course miss the real and significant stories and trends. By now I should also know that Big Brother isn’t amused by these under-the-radar attacks on its flanks. If I’ve noticed this, they’ve noticed this. Substack would have to be at the top of any target list the Ministry of Truth has identified.

Did the Narrative Protectors pick up on this “threat” too late? Has our underground army grown too large to be neutralized in one fell swoop? I don’t know. That’s the thing about wars - the real kind and the cultural kind - it will take a lot of battles to find out who prevails in the end.

Despite all the Evil Empire's built-in advantages, “the resistance” is actually putting up a pretty good fight. Except for three or four politicians, the real fight is actually being waged on the Internet. A few alternative media sites and hundreds if not thousands of Substack sites tell me that the the leaders who have emerged on our side are far better than the sorry leaders on Team Status Quo.

Sometimes I think the glass is half empty. But sometimes, I say, “No. We’ve got this.”
